Surnommé "Dougie", Douglas Slocombe fut notamment le directeur de la photographie de Steven Spielberg sur Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) et Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) mais aussi celui du bal des vampire, The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) de Roman Polanski et également de Rollerball (1975) de Norman Jewison.

Il remporta 3 BAFTA pour les films The Servant (1963) de Joseph Losey, The Great Gatsby (1974) de Jack Clayton et Julia (1977) de Fred Zinnemann.
